Overview Psychosexual Development
To be psychologically healthy, we must successfully complete each stage. Freud's theory suggested that 'Heterosexual preferences' represent the "NORMAL" outcome of development while 'Homosexual preferences' represented deviation of this process. He wrote that, 'homosexuality cannot be classified as an illness neither a vice or something to be ashamed of, but we consider it to be a variation of the sexual function.'
What if Psychosexual Development failed and got stuck?
Mental Abnormality can occur if a stage is NOT completed successfully and the person becomes 'fixated' in a particular stage. This particular theory shows how Adult Personality is determined by Childhood Experiences(Growth and Development of Functional Mental Structure).
